We.
27 March 2005.
T -, 20 hey, what you do? This is a talk show minus.
20 It's an ice breaker. Don't judge.
Me. Yet, this is bananas come home.
My question is who approved that?
Do you see where this is going? Not really.
If it's your first time, thank you. Thank you for choosing to download this little podcast of ours where we rewind to this week in history 20 years ago. It's not always about the destination, sometimes it's about the journey and we will take you on a journey back in time. But this week, 20 years ago with your host Joe and Mel. Hello, Mel.
Hello we are time travelling back to the 27th of March to the 2nd of April 2005 this week.
The hard hit population of western Sumatra have been again. Struck by a very large earthquake.
There was another earthquake, another earthquake. So much tectonic activity. Seismic activity. Tectonic plates shifting will save the science for the professionals. We'll talk about that in the news. It's a very unfortunate story.
It is with great sadness that. It's been reported to us that Terry Shiva has passed away.
Another unfortunate story that one was a very interesting one that we'll get into in the news all around. I guess right to life versus right to death.
Yeah, very cool.
Involved, yes, and court rulings.
I think anyone who's been following that kind of euthanasia narrative in this country these days will be very interested in that one.
Certainly after the crash and after I I came to her, I felt that there was a possibility that I might die here. So I think that definitely kicked me into gear.
That will kick you into gear. The fear of death will always kick you into gear. That was a a big tragedy in the Australian Defence Force history this time 20 years ago as well. We'll talk about the Big Sea King helicopter crash that occurred.
April. Yes. Can't believe that one.
In 2005, yeah, it was. It's a shocking story which, like I said, we'll get into. But before we do that, we just need to kinda loosen up, you know, just shake things off a little bit and just, you know, ease our way into the podcast. A lot of people will would do their warm ups behind the scenes before the big game.
20 years ago. That doesn't feel it.
No, not our citizens.
But we're like NRL referees who get out there and the uniforms that do their warm ups on the field with the players as well, which is ridiculous. Let me tell you.
Some high kicks and.
Some arm circles. I'd like to stretch on over to the phenomenon.
We're not players. We're barely adjudicators, but we're warming up so. Yeah.
That is a Stanley Cup, the Stanley Cup. Ohh. Is that what you win the iPhone? No, I'm talking about the vessel that women drink out there. But there's things being popular for a few years now. I'm, you know, I I realise this. I realise it's not a new thing. It's been going for a little while.
A Stanley Cup, not the ice hockey, not the ice hockey. Carl. That's the Stanley Cup. Not that Stanley Cup. The drinking vessel, yeah. Yes, hydration has been going on for quite some time. It kind of is, is a basic human thing.
What's this?
I just don't understand. Why they're so popular? What's so good about them? We're talking about, you know, 80.
Stanley Cups are. Are these the?
Dollars $80.00. These are these ones with the handle and umm.
Are these these big stainless steel they're? They're like a mug and they taper at the end so they could fit in the cup holder of the car. Yeah, that is quite good. Yeah.
So they can go in your cup holder. That's actually good. That's helpful. And then they bring out all these limited addition ones. So not and it's not like you you buy one and then you're done.
Ohh, isn't that just? Isn't that just an excuse to sell anything like limited edition? Does it do the same thing?
But they bring out. They're like the green the green St. Patrick's Day quencher.
That's limited edition. Is it a colour? Is a limited?
Is limited editions the Valentine's Day quencher, which is pink pink romance.
Red, it's red or. OK. Yeah.
Hmm.
Messy is that the the footy guy? Doesn't he wear pink? There's the pink one. There's in the Australia limited edition. Green and gold. Isn't that a horrible colour combination? Just PS.
Not the the football player. Yeah, maybe. I don't know, I guess. Hmm. Right. Tacky. Yeah.
Limited edition Barbie Lunar New Year, so you don't just buy one, it's not set and forget you keep.
There's a range. Hmm.
Getting them and they're like $80.00 for a freaking cup.
This is this. How's the dopamine can you? Can you afford? Can you? Is it a money? Can't buy a dopamine hit when you purchase a Stanley Cup.
I've seen. But dazzled ones with crystals. Hundreds of dollars.
Take your first sip of water. Does it do anything to the water? Does it make at that price? Does it make the water taste any different?
Oh, look, here's a special one that's like 160 dollars.
What does it do?
I don't I I don't know I.
Just got a pretty.
Picture what is it like a a sort of a A Stanley Cup at one end and a flashlight at the other end? Because that's they kind of look like they.
Tyler Tiger, Bobby. Hello Kitty.
Yeah.
And it like. A minimum $80.00 a pop I I I honestly don't get it, but I'm really glad that I guess the you this sounds like a booming segment to be honest, but I I I thank you. Thank you. I am booming a bit. I do like though that the the youth are now drinking water cause I don't think I ever drank water growing up. Yeah, can't recall.
Very well.
Ever drinking a glass of water until probably about 10 years ago? About 10, we didn't used.
To drink water we there was there was.
Is that a thing? Did you drink water? Did you ever have water?
No, no. Ohh as a kid.
I didn't cordial. Ohh that was my water intake cordial.
Yeah. Pink cordial. Maybe he'll maybe from the bubbler every now and then.
I drank out of the hose once, but it tasted disgusting, tasted like rocks and spiders.
Yeah. I would have. We had soft drink. We had so much soft drink as kids like. And it's, you know, this is not a I'm not having a go at bad parenting or it was different. It was a different time. Nowadays we know better. So we do better. OK. But we had we had about probably 4 litres of coke in the fridge going at any one time. So we didn't run out of Coke Cola. Yeah.
That's just what.
That's the 80s. It's 80s different time. I had code. We had the Sharps brothers and it was like a it was a guy who'd drive around.
Shops from you? A little soft drink truck, yeah.
In a huge. And you'd buy and and you'd leave your empty bottles out and they'd give you new. Bottles.
Yeah.
Glass bottles too dangerous and you could choose. You could choose the flavours, the.
Hey, now you see that in Cootamundra? Yeah. Yeah.
Colour and orange.
At the Shelley's lemonade truck in Cootamundra Shelley's, Shelley Shelley's and Sharps yeah.
Shelly, you had.
Shelly, we had the shops, shops.
Yeah, those were the days back when.
Milk. Ovaltine. I drank a lot of Ovaltine growing up.
Did you? Yeah. I was a quick guy, quick. And Milo, I think you can still get.
Active arts, whatever happened to act of ice that was good Tang.
It can't you.
Lose. Yeah, Tang was. I didn't do much. Tang didn't.
I liked.
That was like orange powdered orange juice.
Lot of cottees lemon or Raspberry cordial.
Drinking water just wasn't the thing, was it?
Orange.
Yes.
Juice drink load of orange juice because you know, apparently it was good for you. It turns out it's sort of sugar, but now we now we know that you need to drink water. That actually helps you survive.
Yeah, orange juice and milk. Orange juice. And milk, yeah.
My life.
A lot better.
I I think I think I first realised that I should be drinking water. It's probably a little bit more than 10 years ago when you started buying water when you started. Buying the bottles of.
Ah, I reckon.
Evian I was out, right? I was. I was. I was a teenager and I was. Booming at that?
And I was like $2.00 for a bottle of water I could just.
Get that out of the tap. Not that I ever did.
I I think I think you realise you realise that you need to drink. And it's a rite of passage. It comes pretty much after the rite of passage of your first big binge drink, when you get absolutely face and you wake up with your first hangover and you feel like a cat has in your.
Yes.
Mouth. And you think I need water? That's when you start drinking water, let's face.
It.
Ohh look.
Or Gatorade Gatorade's good for hangover? I drink. Gatorade. That's the orange one.
It's not too bad. Uh, what else is really good pickle juice?
I was. I'm waiting for you to say tomatoes with salt and what is this to say?
Tomatoes with salt also really good. Yeah, but it's this. It's the salt. It's helping you. You lose your electrolytes. Electrolytes. Yes. Pickle juice. Got the electrolytes in it. Pickle juice is great for a hangover. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. And if you've got an aversion to it, unless you ******* all the bad stuff out.
That is that even true? Or is that just a rumour? They're the electrolytes and the salt, and the tomatoes, pickled juice.
Oh jeez.
Anyway, it just helps catalyst anyway. We actually do have to do the Hatch match and dispatch book. I was a bit ahead of myself. I almost thought we were in the news segment and I'm like, could you?
Yes.
To that and now here's the news. Nobody's gonna take the news seriously with that sort of a Stinger, but they will take the Hatch match and dispatch clue seriously. The segment we do at the end of the show hatches, matches and dispatches. We usually talk about a birth or a wedding or divorce or a death, and it is a it's a death. It's a celebrity that passed away this time 20 years ago.
Yes. It's a serious one this week. It's death, yes.
That said this.
The young People of America. What?
What I wish to you.
Listen. To his voice. Do not be afraid.
Yeah, cool. Alright, listen to his voice and don't be afraid. Find out who that person is at the end of the show.
Jumping 5.
OK. So we're back into the serious with the news. This is and there were. So we had the Boxing Day. So I said this last week, Boxing Day tsunami, we had the earthquake in Japan earthquake. Now we've got another one in Indonesia.
Yes, seriously. Last night, yes. Yes, in Sumatra, in fact, on the 28th of May. Magnitude 8.6 strikes off the West Coast. That is massive and this is just three months after the Boxing Day earthquake and tsunami.
That's. That is a big one. Very big, yeah.
Obviously causing widespread panic and concerns that another tsunami similar to what happened in December was going to happen again.
The hard hit population of western Sumatra have been again struck by a very large earthquake. This is not an aftershock, it is one of those earthquake you call a great earthquake because it between 8:00 and 9:00 on the Richter scale. It has created a lot of panic in Sumatra all over the island. It was very, very easy to feel how big it was. We do not have reports of any tsunami yet. And. Where and we have also only limited reports of damage.
So that was the United Nations Disaster, relief coordinator Yan Egeland, briefing the United Nations, and you heard him say about the tsunami there. I think a lot of people were really worried that there was gonna be a tsunami. There was 1313 dead, hundreds injured. You look at some of the footage online and there was I I was looking at him. That was just like people filming things with, like, suddenly, like people are able to video, uh stuff. So we there was people filming some cars, just a couple of full drives. Just pay. Sort of on a paddock and they were bouncing around as I was like, Oh my God, that's terrifying and just weird to see.
Oh my goodness.
So, so buildings collapsed, all the infrastructure damaged hospitals, schools, homes, people. It was a like they said 8.6 very. Large felt as far away as places like Thailand and Malaysia and Sri Lanka, and that big fear from what happened earlier on in the year.
And you can understand why. Because when you look at the Boxing Day tsunami, that earthquake was.
Ohh yeah sorry late last. Year. But you know what I mean.
Last, yeah, that was 9.1 to 9.3 magnitude and we're looking at 8.6. So it's pretty close.
Yeah.
Still very large, yeah.
Yeah, obviously didn't result in a tsunami, but not in a major event. There were some small tsunami esque waves that were generated, but nowhere near as destructive. As what we saw at the end.
I I remember the news reports at the time, and I remember hysteria as a result. People immediately went to well, that's in a similar spot and it's really big and.
Of 2024.
Yeah.
But there's going to be another tsunami.
And of course you you your mind would go straight to that firstly, but secondly, because people were so unprepared the first time you'd be wanting to just get out of there, wouldn't you? You'd be taking every precaution you could off the back of.
Exactly. Yeah.
What happened at this time?
Well, and that it's it's it's like, OK, the earthquake happens in new experience, the earthquake which probably doesn't go for a very long period of time, like up to a minute maybe, I don't know. Like, I don't know. But I looked at the footage and it like it. It seemed to happen very quick.
Hmm.
Quickly, maybe it was a bit longer than a minute, so that passes and then immediate was like, what's broken? What's coming next, you know, like, and how do I get out of here? Like the people were absolutely freaking out. And unfortunately, because Australia is very close to Indonesia, we had a presence over there and we sent our military over there.
Yeah, yeah.
Hmm.
To assist and then we had a massive tragedy happened on the 2nd of April when Australian military personnel were involved in the the Western seeking helicopter crash. The call sign Shark 2 helicopter crash on nears Island in Indonesia while they were trying to provide all the humanitarian.
Hmm.
Following the earthquake.
Hmm, it resulted in the tragic deaths of nine Australian military personnel, making it one of the worst peacetime losses for the Australian Defence Force on March 28th. It took off from HMAS Kanimbla, which is an Australian Navy ship that is deployed for disaster relief, and they were heading over there to help with with the efforts and the. And the clean up and and what happened after the the earthquake, it was delivering medical personnel and supplies to remote village on nears Island. And upon approach it suddenly lost control and crashed near a soccer field in a village. 9 As we mentioned died. That was nine of the 11 people on board. They died instantly while two survived with really serious injuries.
Certainly after the crash and after I I came to I I felt that there was a possibility that I might die here. So I think that definitely kicked me into gear as. No way. I wanted to die in a helicopter 8000 kilometres from my home, so I I. I just didn't want to die there. Even to this day, I I I can clearly recall the sound that plays over and over in my head, the sound of the crash over and over and over again. So I'll never forget it.
That was leading seaman Shane Warburton, speaking to 60 minutes about the the crash. So obviously one of the two survivors. What? What I find interesting is that the aircraft like it lost control. And you say it crashed near a soccer field in a village. And I think that that probably speaks to the thinking or the foresight of the pilot to at least.
Enforce.
Yeah.
Try and and I I don't know that you've got a lot of control over a helicopter when it goes down, but trying to put it in a soccer field rather than in the middle of the village is pretty.
No cars somewhere, yeah.
Where people, yeah.
Pretty bloody gutsy. But look, it was due to a mechanical failure, so something had gone wrong with this crash. It was due to a mechanical failure which resulted in lawsuits and all sorts of stuff. And the families of the victims wanted explanations. That's 60 minutes. Report is gut wrenching. Ray Martin did it and it talks about how the. The personnel have to come to the family's house and tell. Of them, about their family member passing away in the crash, which is just dreadful and and how they go through like, cause you know that it's so far away you imagine. I mean, it's bad enough when somebody passes away and they're in sort of the area and at least you can kind of get some closure. But when people are very far away obviously that distance and that helplessness.
Oh yeah.
Just compounded.
And they're doing something to help. Others as well, it's just.
Yeah. So compounded and they've probably done it a million times, so you'd never expect it to happen, but it was this mechanical fault and I think it was down to like a bolt and a nut with a split pin in the top of the the bolts to hold the nut in place.
Occasional.
That wasn't inserted properly and it fell out and it caused something to fail, which basically led to the crash. There's a whole bunch of stuff in that report on 60 minutes. You can check out online, but that caused this mechanical failure in the flight control system. And then while they're trying to improve it and investigate, they grounded the entire fleet. Of seeking choppers.
That's right. Yeah, I remember that. Yeah.
Hey, it was terrible. And equally as terrible on the 31st of March is the passing away or is it? See this is a really interesting story, this one.
This is a really interesting one from an ethical standpoint, and as we look at things like right to die and quality of life.
Hmm.
This was an event that I think really brought it into the discussion. Terry Schivo, after a prolonged legal battle over her right to die, she dies on the 31st of March after the removal of her feeding tube. This sparked national debates on ethics, legality and family rights around life support, so she suffered a cardiac arrest back in 1990. They think it was due to suspected potassium imbalance. And the cardiac arrest led to severe brain damage. She entered what was diagnosed as a persistent vegetative state, or PVS, leaving her unable to speak, eat or move independently.
Yeah, and this had, like, there's there's kind of two sides to it. So there's the, huh? And who basically wants her to die with dignity? Or I don't know if it's die with dignity. But it's like she's never getting better. And obviously see some sort of futility in keeping her alive. But then there's her parents who think that she has a little bit of awareness and may recover. They're just while there's life, there is hope. OK.
Hmm.
It's so it's a minefield to navigate, right? Like there's so many sensitivities around this and you can understand why people have whatever feelings they have. So it's really treacherous and hard to kind of get around all the emotion behind it and and and. And I can you definitely can empathise with the husband who wants to just be like all. But well, this is it. She doesn't have much quality of life. So what's the point of life continuing if there is no quality, just end it. And then there's the parents with where there's life, there's hope. So there's, like so much legal red tape as well.
There was 14 legal appeals. There was multiple state and federal court rulings. The President, George W, even got involved at.
Yeah.
One point so. We got to 1998, so 8 years after she.
The.
Was in cardiac arrest.
So she is on life support, no sign of improvement for 8:00.
Eight years. Eight years can't speak, can't eat, can't move. So 1998 her husband Michael Files to remove her feeding tube. He said that she wouldn't want to live in this condition. And that's when her parents.
Yes. Yes.
Stepped in and said, well, we think there there's there's a little bit of hope that she might recover. Medical experts then, because it's going to court, medical experts, testify that she was.
Yeah. That's one opinion, two opinion, three opinion 4. Like he's just trying to get as many as you can to try and support your argument, basically.
In this. Yeah, they said that she definitely was in this persistent vegetative state. There was no chance of recovery and the judge ruled that Terry wouldn't have wanted to live like this. And the judge ruled that her feeding tube be removed.
Hmm.
It's then removed for the first time in April 2001.
Yeah.
So, three years after he files to remove it, her parents appeal, arguing that new medical treatments that have now come into play could help her. The judge rejects those arguments, but the feeding tube is then reinserted after they made an appeal to Florida's second District Court of Appeal.
Yep. It's just, it's so gross. They're just like losing sight of the fact that there's a human being here. But.
OK.
They're they're they're almost pretty man.
But both sides are doing what they feel is right as well. Like, imagine.
And they're fueled by grief and all of. This sort of stuff the.
Oh.
The thought of. Like regardless of whether she's in a persistent vegetative state like they're saying right, like you don't know. You don't know if she can feel pain or anything like that. Right. And it's like you got a tube down your throat feeding you, right. And they remove that. Maybe it's intravenous, I don't know. But you are. Starving that person to death, regardless of whatever their brain or cognitive function is, or what they feel or don't feel or whatever that you don't know about, you're starving them out. Like that's how you're allowing them to die. So the the, the keeping her alive is is is not ideal either. Maybe, depending on where you sit with this. I mean, in my opinion. Would be like, well, what quality of life? Like, let's look at quality of life, right. But then. The quality of life also speaking to starving someone to death. I mean, that's awful. Yeah, you.
Letting. Starve, yeah. Know the tubes removed again in October 2003.
Wow.
Jeb Bush, who's a Florida governor at the time, steps in signing a new law called Terry's Law that ordered the to be reinserted.
Yeah. And like it's got, it's now it's branded, you know, and it's a political football. It's just gross, yeah.
Yeah. Michael, her husband challenges the law, arguing it violated the Florida Constitution. 2004 The Florida Supreme Court struck down terries law, ruling that the government couldn't interfere in personal medical decisions. Multiple legal battles back and forth. For years. We get to the the 18th of March 2005 and a court orders the tubes removal again.
M.
Congress and President George W Bush intervene, passing a law allowing federal courts to review the case. The federal courts then refused to overturn the decision. She dies 13 days after the tube was removed, aged 41, on the 31st of March.
1313 days. 13 days it took her to die after they took that feeding tube out. Like that is torture. That's torture. Anyway, that's just my opinion. I I mean, what would you do? Like, if you if if I was in a like, this is a horrible hypothetical. Right? But if I was in that state, man, I'm like this just makes me think, oh, maybe we should speak to someone and get it all written down.
Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Like now, right? It's like.
That is what? That's what this brought up. So not just right to die versus right to life. It also brought up. Having those discussions and the need to have a have a will in place, but also having these types of discussions with your loved ones, because who does have the ultimate say this spouse, the parents, and that's, that's where the grey area was. It was. Well, who can make this decision on her behalf?
Yeah.
Yeah.
She hasn't made these wishes known, her husband said. She wouldn't wanna live like this, but there was nothing.
She wouldn't want to die like that either.
There was nothing on the record but. Yeah. Why? Why then, if you don't? If they don't want to sustain her and keep her alive? Is there another way to do it? When you look at things like the process for euthanasia, hmm, why would you not maybe consider an option like that as opposed to just taking the tube out and seeing what happens? I don't know. I don't.
I think to. Like like when it's when it's your life support system, that's the only thing that's keeping you alive. Like the only thing is that feeding tube, right? That's keeping you alive. Then you know that's there's no quality of life there, right? Like when you've got, like, a terminal illness and there might be a little bit of hope that with treatment and whatever, you can make some recovery or extend your life, then that's a bit different.
Hmm.
And you can still have a say. In it too.
But you've gotta have a say. You've gotta have a say right? Like. And like I said, horrible way to.
Yeah. Yeah.
If terrible way to die.
Yeah. And it did bring up obviously the right to die versus right to life. Who should have the final say? Also, government involvement should state and federal lawmakers be part of that. Yeah. Yeah. And then medical ethics as well. If she's in that state. But also then.
We're looking amongst the politicians. She was a football, right? Well, because.
What happens if a little bit like her parents were saying what happens with medical breakthroughs and you look at what they talk about now, I was listening to a podcast the other day and someone's talking. Ohh yeah, in 20 years time, your brain's gonna be into woven with AI and we're all gonna live up in the cloud. So yeah, if that's really what's gonna happen in 20 years time, then if someone's in that type of state, do you prolong it so that they can come and live in the cloud too?
Well, not in that state, because, I mean, she had brain damage like she was brain damaged. So you can't, I mean. But, you know, it's like a time machine. Did she have a backup copy that she could download?
Yeah, that's true.
Right, OK. That's really sci-fi and a bit out there. I don't want to kind of.
I know I can't even. I can't even understand 3D printing, so that's a little bit.
I wanna. I don't wanna kind of disrespect it, but it like there is just it's a it is a minefield and it's like I reckon and I think it should be down to the individual, but there will be laws and governments and stuff that get in the way with that. You should absolutely, clearly articulate what.
Too much for me. Yeah.
It comes down to having the conversation. If she'd had that conversation and it had been recorded somewhere and everyone was aware of it, people would know. But we don't like talking about death we don't like. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, but she's 41, and that happened to her. She's 41. They have an 8 years prior. Like, you know, she's young.
Yeah, and he wouldn't have known.
The baby.
But but we also don't like talking about these things because we think that if we talk about it, maybe we're gonna trigger something or jinx ourselves. It's it's not something that you talk about. Yeah. Yeah. Death. And. And and those sorts of scenarios or how you'd like your death to play out.
Death or assisted dining? Well, the only thing I know is that if I, I'm gonna talk to someone like, obviously if I'm in that sort of state, just please switch it off, but don't switch it off. Don't like, you know, or put something good in the feeding tube like some Ben and Jerry's. And then maybe like, kill me with morphine or something like that. Alright. Like, just like we, we we are nicer to animals when it comes to this sort of stuff. You know? It kills us. It breaks our hearts. But we are at least helping animals along their way so that they don't have to suffer, which I think is a wonderful thing. The only thing I wanna make sure is that somebody plays Iron Maiden at my funeral. That's the only thing.
Yes, yes, that's true. That's true.
Change of pace. Thank goodness. That was. That was a dark, dark news. That was one of the darkest news segments. I think we've had since September 11. That was dark, yes.
Hmm.
Yeah, it's a difficult week of news. What?
You know it's not dark though gold.
No.
No, you have to play that during the day. Although now you can do the glow in the dark golf or and I did see the other day. Ohh, my God. I should save this for when we open up a certain box that goes boom. Maybe I will remind me of the golf thing. OK, maybe. Maybe we're talking about golf. Annika Sorenstam Sorenson.
OK, alright, sure.
Sorry, so see, I'm not Swedish. Annika sorenstam. Swedish golfer secured her third victory at the Kraft Nabisco Championship. I don't even think that's Swedish. I started to sound like a Nazi interrogator. Nabisco. The biscuits, the craft. Nabisco cheese and bikkies. Cheese and bikies tournament are women's golf held at Mission Hills Country Club. Her eighth major titles, solidifying her status as one of the top female.
Nabisco. That's the. Yum Yum.
Golfers in the.
World. Yes, she dominated the tournament leading at 3 strokes after 54 holes.
M.
Pulling away on the final day shot a final round 68 -. 4 is that 4 under par is. That what that means.
Yeah, muska.
To finish at 15 under par, full heat strokes ahead of the nearest. Editor. One of the most dominant major wins in LPGA history.
Ohh, shut the gate. The horse has bolted.
Showcasing her precision, her power and her.
Mental toughness. That's the thing. You know, this tournament is the one that they get there. There's a big tradition with it. Yeah. At this particular course, what they do is they leap into a pond. I think it's around the 18th hole called Poppies pond. Somebody started at night. This dude will probably explain it better.
OK.
These bonds are very significant moment for this event started, you know, in 1988, Amy Alcott. It was her second win. Impulsively just jumped in with her. Daddy, 1991, Dinah jumps in and then by 1994 every champion since has jumped in, or at least put a toe in. And it's, you know, that's a 30 year tradition. So all the girls on tour now, no matter what age, grew up, you know, knowing that tradition in its worldwide and so many people that don't know golf don't know. LPGA golf always go. Is that the. Where they jump in.
The water. Yeah, that is. It's the one where they jump in the water. Little tradition. So they finished. They know that they've won and then they jump into the pond. And I looked over the years over the 30 year history of of Poppies Pond and the pond leaping and poppies. Ponds, water qual.
That's the one where they jump. In the water. So.
Upon jumping.
For the, the pH has obviously been. Tessa has improved over time, so I think somewhere maybe in those early years, one of the ladies might have picked up Giardia or something and the eye of a needle or something like that, yeah, it's not very pleasant diving into poppies pond is not recommended. So I think they threw some chlorine tablets or a shock. You know, you shock your pool, you throw in like just a.
Has it?
Blue green green algae blue green algae poisoning.
Load of chlorine just to shock it to shock all the ALDI and kill everything. Yeah, yeah, I am too. Otherwise, you know, we can't be killing off those LPGA golfers. They're like, rare diamonds and they need to be protected at all costs.
Maybe.
I'm glad. I'm glad.
You've got a boomer. Complaint this is the place for you. Let me tell you that no longer will you sit there and say something to a group of friends. That might be a little bit of a beef or a grip or a grievance that you have only to be replied with the. Is OK, boomer? And then just feel shamed. There is no shame here. That's it. As we open up the boom box.
We welcome them, we welcome them. We enjoy them. So given, you know, it's your show so you can put your own boom in watch golf soon.
Yeah. Yeah, well, OK, the golf thing. So I was like, golf is not the greatest thing for me to watch on. I know a lot of people watch golf. They enjoy it on, on the sport and stuff on the KO on when they're watching the KO on the sport and they're they're they're enjoying the golf. I think it's a good walk spoiled or an excuse to just drive around in a cart and drink beer for a few hours. But.
Oh.
Yes.
The golf I was watching the other day going through a KO. And there was golf, and it was like Tiger Woods was playing and stuff, but they were indoors. They were indoors. It was virtual golf. So they're basically playing video game golf. And I thought again, you know, it's like the Twitch streamers and all of that sort of stuff when they're playing video games. See, back in my day, video games were a covered item.
What?
And to watch somebody play meant that you were waiting for a turn. You're waiting for a turn that you weren't having, cause the other person was hogging the console or the game or whatever. So to sit there and watch Tiger Woods play video game golf just reminded me of waiting for a turn.
Knowing, yeah.
Yes.
And that's my boom.
That's a good boom, yeah.
I reckon it is. I just think you know, why would I sit there and watch people play video games? I want to see real feats of physical achievement, real feats of people exerting themselves physically to earn the accolade or the award of the right to jump into poppie's pond or LOFT that trophy above their head and bask in the glory that is the victory that they have they have attained. Off the sweat of their own back from a physical thing, whether it be dragging a golf buggy around and talking to a caddy and stuff, but not sitting there in front of a computer screen and looking at, it's going on and hit the ball at the screen is gonna pretend to sail over the. Listen and then I'm gonna try and put the ball. Into the cup. Sorry. Yeah, double boomed. That's double boomed. I apologise.
You did. Boom, you didn't disclose. I have a a supermarket related boom.
A supermarket related boom.
Are you ready? Yes, I like this one and I suffer from this. I I relate to this boom. I dream of a day when paper towel manufacturers just say how many rolls are in the package and not how many hypothetical rolls would be in the package if there was some other.
Right.
Hypothetical size.
I hate. I hate that it's like.
Isn't that annoying? If this was like the extra large size and it's the equivalent of the 24 pack, but it's a a smaller pack, but there's twice as much paper in here and it's not going to fit in your normal towel roll holder thing because it's like twice as big, but.
Whatever. Yeah. But and then if you fold it in half, you get the two play actually get double the value. Because it's two roles in one.
Amazing. No, no.
I don't even understand. I don't understand. I don't understand. I'm not. I'm not here to math. I'm not here to math. The amount of sheets that I get in a roll. I just. I buy things based on cheapness and absorbency. And that's going to become especially more important when I get older. Kind of happy that we opened up the boom box a little bit earlier in the show because I was able to just feel I feel fresh, feel fresh, feel a little bit lighter, feel like a lot lighter, but I don't know.
Cut that out. Get that out. Lighter you. Put that load off.
Because I'm I. I don't cope very well with the music segment and you know this better than that.
How long it will last? Let's just jump in then, shall we? Maybe you can open.
Alright, what have we got?
Up your boom box afterwards if you need to.
Ohh great. Strap yourself in or should I say snap yourself in? Maybe not.
Yes.
Snappy's not in the. Charts. It's sweet, but that was nice.
Good. Thanks.
Nice Anthony Galea is still #1 here in Australia with his single reign. I'm waiting for him to say, feel it on my fingertips here and on the window.
See you on my window pane. Different rain song. Yeah, wrong rain.
Yeah, wrong rain.
Come arrangements.
Nothing worse than crossing your reins. See, we'll start. I'll tell you what they're gonna have to. It's, I'm. I'm sitting on top of the lid of the box, and I can feel the box sort of waiting to open itself up again.
And long rain. I hate the wrong rain. Ohh the sideways rain, so give me. The. We have a new number, one single over in the UK. Well, new old song. It's a cover of well, it's not even a cover. Yeah. Is this the way to Amarillo? It's a real it's a re release of the 1971 song by Tony Christie. By comedian Peter Kay. But Peter Day's not singing it Tony Christie, still singing. Peter Day's just doing the video clip, doing the video clip. Ah, massive hits charity, that's why.
Just dancing around in the film clip. The only reason I'm sitting here like this is because I forgot to download it.
You don't have the song well because you could have just got the original from 1971. No, no, it's all about the video. You put it in. You weren't looking sheepish.
That's alright. Well, I promise you, I promise you I'll put it in later on, like, right? Right. I know. I was sitting here and I could see that you were all. It's like, is he gonna apply it? I'll say some more things about it.
How many more words do I need to make? OK, then I'll keep making words. Finger hasn't moved to the button yet. What? What? What's going on here?
Maybe he'll play it. Hey, I'm sorry. I'm not gonna play it, but what I will do is later on I'll put.
OK.
It in here.
Is this?
Every night I've been, huh? Dreaming dreams. Maria. Sweet Marie, who waits for me.
And then we're back from where I.
Great. Ohh, that sounds exactly the same as the 1971 version even though it's 2.
Put it in there.
1005.
Well, we're gonna compare the two.
No, we're not because it is the same song. It's. Just the video clip that we like.
OK.
Good, because then otherwise I'd have to put the 71 version in here. But you're saying that I don't have to.
I don't think you have to. Well, I don't know. Maybe it is a little bit different. Maybe there's some noise in the video. So Peter Kay? Yes, it was the Comic Relief charity music video for Red Nose Day. In fact, red nosed. I love Red Nose Day. Just quietly.
So it doesn't have. So we'll scratch that. Is there anything else we need to add?
Oops.
Me too. Yes.
He's lip syncing and marching through scenes with celebrity cameos and and everyone loved it. He's lip syncing, he's marching along and like there's two footy players behind him and they start punching on and then there's some Muppets that come in.
His lip syncing to the original song. So Peter Kay little bit ahead of his time. This is basically the world. 'S first tick tiles. Yeah, it is.
TikTok, effectively Ronnie from the two ronnies, one of the ronnies Ronnie Corbett. He was in there and he's marching along with him and he tripped over and fell over. They were on green screen with all these backgrounds.
Down. Well, that's. Hilarious.
Fell over and we'll be the case like. I don't wanna put in cause.
Poor old.
Fell over and hurt himself. And I said no, that's hilarious. Put it. And they put it and it is funny. It's very it's towards the end of the clip. If you're interested, just Fast forward to perhaps the first bit.
Good slapstick. Peter Kay is a very funny comedian. I love the the stuff where he he talks about the misheard lyrics which you can Google and watch on the YouTube. He talks about the the miss you. Yes. Like I think it's like is it we are family and there's one line. It's like somebody strange.
Very funny.
Oh, does that.
The vicar it anyway, you just go and look at it for yourself. Yeah. No, no, it's not strangled. The beer. Just let me staple the vicar anyway. You get the point. Peter Kay. Funny man. Great single.
OK. Well, they love him.
Yes. So there's lots of. People like Michael Parkinson was in there, Mr Blobby Phoenix, Knights footy players and it inspired a lot of flash mobs and played at football stadiums, weddings, pubs, great.
Yeah. Isn't that lovely?
Great.
Good charity. Sorry, I forgot the thing. But I mean, in post it's it's happened. It's happened. Nobody will have.
That's fine. That's fine. You've stood it in there. No one. No one even knows. No one would have. Even nobody would have even noticed. No, I had.
They will be, nonetheless, they'll. Have.
No idea. No idea what's next. OK, top five please.
UK top five.
Have you got all the US wrong? Wrong, you, US.
OK.
Is this the way to answer yellow? Not sure. God help me. There's nothing worse than being lost on the.
And now I'm lost. I got lost on the way to Amarillo and I fell. Over.
Ohh gosh. Fell over. Ronnie called.
Way so well, but trip me.
Over and I just don't know.
What's going on?
Oh dear. Been one of those one of those podcasts. What are we doing? The top five for the USA.
US.
Everybody, stand up. Everybody. Put your hands up. Let's party. Everybody bounce the meat to champagne and burn a little this hot. Disco inferno. Let's go then. Now I can. Go to the corner.
Beside me.
Keep going.
Up.
Whoa, same songs as last week, but slight churn in the disco inferno is kind of being bumped out.
Wow.
Ohh no, not with the. Yeah, the amazing piano.
If well, yeah, you'll. You'll cope like Kelly Clarkson's rising up the charts. We're just going for night 5. Yes, city.
Oh.
Censoring on 4.
Living on the that's right, #4 Kelly Clarkson. Obsession. Obsession. That's is that that Frankie J dude, Baby Bash. It's not a not a very good name. It doesn't really stand up in this day and age. And and then Blvd. Of broken dreams like Green Day, who have just recently toured Australia.
Session it's just the only. Fate, baby. No.
M.
Did they? Yeah. Yeah. People really enjoyed it. I think it went very well. Candy shop $0.50 in at #1 licking the Lollipop. Don't stop till you hit the spot. Whoa.
Yes. Hmm, so seductive. We didn't talk about obsession last week to save some information for this week, so but can we talk about obsession this week?
We didn't talk about obsessions, OK? We sure can.
And it depends.
On where you look it up so on on the YouTube it only has it's missing and.
Yes.
Yes. And I was like, did I spell that wrong?
Is it really? Is that a? Is that a typo?
And then I double checked, I was like, no, there's meant. To be another. S no. Well, I think I it's.
OK.
Actually, a bilingual cover of a song called obsession with 1S and an. Umlaut over the O.
Possession. Possession.
OBSESIN with the.
Unlad on the earth.
Is it a normal? No, that's not a normal out, that's. The an accent omlets the dots, isn't it?
An access yes. Yes, it's not low on brow. It's not Motley Cruise, that's.
This is the. Little the little. The flick with the flick looks like an.
OK, right. Yes. But it's the same singer. So he covered his own song. He did 1. He basically, he's done an English version and a.
Eyebrow. Spanish version, yes, yes, yes, yes, Frankie Jays. He's Mexican American.
Right, that's what it is trying to get all technical with it. You like? It's a bilingual jewel, blah, blah, blah. It's like he's just done. Two versions. He's done. Yeah, yeah.
Yes, an English version.
Yeah.
And he's done it with with as we mentioned. Baby Bash. Hmm. And I think the fact that he then recorded the English version helped him kind of breakthrough.
Yeah. So this is like obsession English. They've still got. A few like Spanish parts in it, because the the nowhere, some more and then this bit. Same.
Oh.
Then he uses the obsession song and cause The thing is, is when I was doing the English version like the other week and I'm like I need to find the chorus. So it's like obviously the word obsession must be in the chorus cause it's in the song title and I don't think it is actually in the chorus of the English version, but it is it's it's, you know, in which sounds French, but it's not.
Oh, I like.
That one better. That's sexy, isn't it?
No, it's not, no.
That's because I'm as heathen, and it's just that's what it is in the. Spanish version yes.
I think.
I'm glad we cleared that up. I really am. I like, you know, we've opened the boom box, we've cleared that up. Now we've got to the bottom of this. I mean, I'm just throw. I feel like a weight has lifted on my shoulders. I will sleep tonight so soundly. Yeah.
Thank you. Yeah. Good. I'm glad Frankie J started in the late 90s. He was in a Latino boy band called. Columbia Kings, which was a cumbia pop group led by AB Quinton Miller, who's Celina's brother.
Of course he was. Ohh, Selena from that movie.
Ohh, that Selena. I like. It was a very confident that Selena's brother in in the in the notes and I was like.
That's. Yes. Well, that's why there's only one Selena and it is Serena.
Well.
I was thinking of Celina from home and away.
No.
Dame. Well, she Damian, Damian's sister. Oh, no, that was Finley. I was thinking might. Yes. No. So Selina's brother.
I I don't know. Yes.
Not Frankie. JAB. Quinta. Lina. But Frankie J goes solo in 2000 and shifts more towards R&B. Because Colombia kings actually is very reminiscent of was Manny Gomez type music there was that really.
Easy. Ohh yes.
Loudy fast tempo.
Yeah.
Kind of style. Whereas he moved more when he went solo into the R&B in the Latin pop.
Yeah. The the the gasolina. Yes, it was a lot. Yes, I'll have the loaded fries and some tongue, Selina.
It's a street corn.
Ohh the street. Corner dusmani Gomez. The street corn is pretty good. It's not bad. It's. I think it's the combination of the cheese and the chipolo mayonnaise that just makes it a.
Search for Christ's very. Very good. Real hit and the gasolina.
And. Gasolina the fact that you have to scream your lungs out and really earn it when you're ordering it at the counter. Also very helpful.
Yes, very satisfied.
Hmm.
Frankie J featured on the single sugar, sugar by Baby Bash, so they did. A switcheroo so. Obsession is Frankie J feet, Baby Bash. But sugar. Sugar is Baby Bash feet. Frankie J OK.
And then the other one.
And so. It's so fly, fly.
I know that one I like that one. Yeah, it's not bad. That's alright.
Interestingly too, I peeped his insta.
And that's interesting.
It's interesting in the context of Guzmania Gomez because he's actively touring at the moment and he's set to appear on the tacos and tequila. Eval he's travelling with the tacos and tequila festival with Busta Rhymes with Buster.
Really. Wow. Say, really look, I mean cause I was like, you know, I kind of feel a bit kind of on the edge like a bit borderline talking about Guzman Y Gomez in associated with any kind of Spanish music or anything like that, right? But he's just he's just he's just leaning the into those racial stereotypes, isn't he the tacos and tequila to her with Busta Rhymes as a.
Well, no, he's owned it. He's owned, he's embraced it. Tacos and tequila with Busta Rhymes. That's a good time. I'd like to go.
Is a bit of a side dish that is that really is.
And I I was reading the comments too on on the YouTube about this.
Hmm.
People love it. People love it. People are still. I love on YouTube. Yes, I love on YouTube when you.
Their obsession.
Go and look at.
Actually saying that France is really bad.
The comments, and it's because all of these songs are from early 2000s and there's always, like comments. Who's who's still here in 2025. And I'm like, yeah, me, but it's just 20. Someone someone does that comment every time who's still here.
A memory attached to it. Is this just like Joey there and you should just go in there? Just be like, no, didn't make it.
But someone's gone. I'm still here in 2019 and they were saying I was having my early 2000s jam session. Couldn't pass this song up. I remember when I was in middle school and this song had black people, white people and Asians singing in Spanish. And most of us didn't know what we were saying. But it sounded nice.
Right. Yeah, that'll do. Fair enough. Let's do movies. Movies. This is this movie that came out that went to number one in the US. Box office is a remake of a classic comedy film that also had a bit of an edge to it because it was. It was. The original came out in a time when. You know these issues were very much like there was still a a big race divide. And I mean there still is a race divide, but it was much bigger back in the day, like the 60s, right? So this is a remake of the film. Guess who's coming to dinner with Bernie Mac and Ashton Kutcher.
Simon Green had the perfect life.
A man is never. Excited about meeting his future father, did you?
Tell them. Tell them what? That them what?
You're white.
Stop the door. It was a joke. I was kidding.
Till he faced the ultimate challenge.
Hey my man. First y'all. Ohh please meet you man. I like that solid grip. Hey, my man. Stick to the front door.
Oh, no, dad, you see?
For me, yes, Sir. This is Simon. That's her boyfriend.
Yeah, Percy, I need you to be nice.
Always nice. You can tell me.
What?
Why? What the no available young black men in New York anymore?
Yeah, Bernie Mac, Bernie Mac's a funny guy, very distinct, distinct voice, but that is a a race reverse version of the 1967 classic. Guess who's coming to dinner? Like I said, instead of a black man meeting his white girlfriend's conservative parents like in the 1967 version with Sidney Pontier, who was a fantastic actor and it's a fantastic. Movie. They flip it so that it's it's it's a 2005 script to wear a white guy's a pretty fly white guy meets a black girl's family as he got Bernie Mac as the dad, Ashton Kutcher as the boyfriend, Zoe Saldana as the girlfriend and Judith Scott as the mum. Right. She brings him home.
Hmm.
Meets the family that that's suspicious. Because he's not aware that he was white, she'd never explained to him he's white, and then he comes there and it's like, Ohh surprised. He's white.
Hmm. Yes, digging into his past and and Simon tries to impress Percy and lots of awkward situations.
And then he starts probing. Hmm. That's the dad. Percy. Yeah, Bernie Mac.
'S character and he hides the fact that he's lost his job, making things worse, lots of misunderstandings and heartfelt moments. And in the end, of course, Percy finally accepts Simon. This was probably 1 of Bernie Mac. The last big comedy films before he passes away in 2008, yeah.
Yeah, because he does. 2008. Hmm. It's a good movie. It was good. It was a remake. I like the original better, but I won't say that it was bad because it wasn't. It had a good message behind it, and Bernie Mac is funny. Every day of the week, Ashton Kutcher got on my nose a little bit. So it's all gonna completely beautiful. Really good. Bernie Mac. Awesome. Good movie. I give it. I don't give it anything. Let's go to the well we have. We had robots in Australia. Yes, that was the number one film, the animated film, which we've already discussed. So we go to TV.
Please.
We had. It's a massive, massive debut this week, 20 years ago, probably one of the biggest shows of the early 2000s. I think it's still, I should know this. I think it's still running. I feel like it is have spin off.
Oh.
Ah yes. And it's kind of it's kind. Of. That is it still running. I don't know if it's still running, but it's maybe it is. You might be right.
I think it I think it, I think. It is.
But it kinda was the bridge between network TV and streaming, wasn't it? It's like one of the last big network. TV programme.
Yeah, it was. And and it was 1. You know, it would be on once a week and you just hang out. And I again it was another one of those shows that was on prime when I was working at Prime. So I used to have to voice all the promos and it. I just remember week after week it was like.
Yeah. Yeah. Every single week.
I'm like, how much? Can happen in this one hospital. I'm the.
The busiest hospital on the planet.
The Grey's Anatomy hospital.
You would swear they were in a third world country, but no.
Long running medical drama debuts on the 27th of March 2.
The 27th of March 2005 five five.
1005. Created by Shonda Rhimes. Surgical drama intense relationships, emotional storytelling.
Shonda rhymes. I like that surgical drama.
Surgical drama. Yeah. Love a bit of surgical drama. One of TV's most successful, enduring series.
An. Yeah.
Well, it's Meredith Grey as the main character, hence the Grey's Anatomy. She's the intern at the start of the the show who struggles to balance her personal life. And medical care? Yeah, that's. Exactly how I did those promos, too. I'm canny. I'm canny. How much you sound like me?
Yeah. Excellent. OK.
Kenny showcases the lives, relationships and careers in the doctors and navigate medical cases, love loss, personal drama. It was really known for these big character deaths as well.
Character deaths, yes.
And everyone was just.
No, they didn't. No, they didn't.
Could not? No. And it was. There was a. Lot of those.
And then there's the primary like doing doing. But they did. Yes. Exactly they did.
I remember 111 where they're like, was the hospital something hospital?
The hospital. I don't know what the hospital was. Seattle grace. Seattle grace. Seattle Grace hospital.
Something grace. Grace Seattle growth. And I remember I did 1 promo and it was like and I had to do it in that kind of voice because they were like blah blah blah. And it was like they've had this and they've had and it was like. But they've never had a code black.
Ooh I that.
And they did like code black over the PA and code Black was a guy that had a bomb. In his gut.
Oh, that is a code black.
And Meredith had to get it out of his guts. And she's, like, standing there, holding her arm in his guts and holding the bomb. And I was just. Like what? How do you even think of this?
I just went straight to Queen. Been swimming pool. I was like, but they've never had a code brown.
Ohh yes, I have plenty of times.
There's better water quality incident at the pool and we've had to close for. The rest of the day, no. This is a code black.
Plan for yourselves was a bomb in a body cavity.
That's tedious.
Yes. And then I think and and that was one of those. Ones where it's like. Ohh holly, so it blows up and it blows up one of the interns. It's blows him up.
And is it? Like the shocking season finale of Grey's Anatomy? Yeah.
The explosive season finales.
All the explosive. How could I have missed that? Jesus, this is what this is. This is why you succeeded in that business. And I was just carrying the bags and wearing the possum outfit from time to time.
In turn, all over the walls. So Ellen Pompeo, Pompeo, merit, grey, Patrick Dempsey, mcgreen. Derrick Sheppard. Oh my goodness.
Yes, Pompeo, that's the one, yes. Ohh, but that's the dreamy dude. Yes, he was the neurosurgeon, wasn't he?
Yes. And I think her boss at the start and she she ****** him and then she found out he was his she he was the boss. The next day, that was awkward. Sandra. Oh, I liked her character, Christina. She was straight talking. No nonsense, Christina.
Yes, mere and Meredith had the hot spring, yes. Yes, that's hmm.
Katherine Heigl as easy.
Yes, I was on team Izzy. Yeah, the determined in turn.
Same easy. Hmm. And Justin Chambers's, Alex, the cocky intern.
I didn't like him, didn't like him. I was more. It's like I said, team Izzy.
But of course it did bring us the Mcdreamy.
Ohh yes, and the endless references.
I kissed Eric. Because they're in the elevator or you get some of.
The elevator I was having a bad day.
I am having a bad day.
So what you do on your bad days make out with. Doctor Mcdreamy think she told anyone.
I thought you and mcdreamy, yeah.
Do they know it's Mcdreamy keeping them up all night?
I hope not.
What is your problem?
You, because apparently you can help Doctor Mcdreamy in ways. The rest of us can't.
Why are you back here tonight? You don't have?
A date with Mcdreamy more.
Like, do not breathe a word of what you heard last night to anyone. Not about me, not about Meredith's. Not about Meredith and Doctor Mcdreamy.
McMurray.
Hey, Doctor Burke, Joe. Who the hell is Doctor Mcdreamy?
Mcdreamy. And then we started putting mix on everything after Mcdreamy.
I think I think it's good that they've got some light when they've got the code black happening as well.
The bomb in the body cavity and then there was mixed steamy too. I think that was in season.
Yeah. Oh me. Staining. Yeah, that's what happens after you get rid of the bomb in the body cavity. You end up with a big steamy from Cleveland, no less.
2. Happened.
Who?
Oh wow. So I I I the first episode, I know that she gets it on with Mcdreamy and then it's all awkward because hello, I'm your boss.
Uh-huh. Ohh yes. Ohh yes that's right because she was unaware that he was the boss and she yes hmm.
So I went to. And I saw when I thought I'll find out what happened, I'll go to television without pity in the way back. Machine. My back machine was very laggy today and.
Oh yeah.
Know what was going on? It was a bit hit and miss. It's very laggy, very laggy and.
It's I think I think there's a lot of users out there that it is to hankering for a better time. I think that a lot of people given that given the current. Global economic whatever climate, I think people are just like let's.
Well, when they stop because it took me 18 minutes to get into the Grey's Anatomy forums today.
It's like this. I'm going the way back machine. That's what's happening, because this is this, this the world's.
Take me back, take my AI brain in the cloud back to 2005 for a good time. Maybe that's what future people are doing. Maybe future people are uploading their brains into the way back machine and actually going back with their brains and the eyes.
Horrible at the moment.
Exactly right. I like I want to be.
Maybe that's why it was laggy, saw that this future, you and me jumping in the way back machine for realsies with our brains.
I want to be optimistic, Mel. I wanna be optimistic mail, but we are in a. World of right now and the only place that people may be finding solace is in the way back machine. Trey and that's all I.
It's not even funny. It's true. Anyway, it took me ages to get in the way back machine, but I got in there and ohh MG. So they didn't do recaps of season 1 of Grey's and Adam, and he only got on to the recaps in season 2 for some reason.
Have to say about that exactly. But she got in there.
Whatever I found all. The forums found greys.
All the the the the Grey's Anatomy forums.
Is it there? Did you know when the greys and made it so? There was like. There was one called Grey Matter. Ha ha. Where they talked about the actors. There was one called Grey.
Yes.
Natter where they just talk **** and then there was and then there was like a kind of anything goes, which included fan fiction. There was a very active.
Grain at her. With each and Stokes. Ohh, the fan fiction is that is a. That is a Horror Story waiting to happen.
Well, the fan fiction you had to click on links and I was.
Yeah, yeah.
Like. I don't think I can trust a. Fan fiction Grey's Anatomy link.
Because straight away.
I've just I've done very scam aware at this time of year and I just I I I I feel like something bad would happen to the house computer if I clicked a fanfic link about Mcdreamy.
Uh, Rick?
Can you be alright? There's only two ways that. The the fan fiction can go and it's either. Sex or furry sex? No, it's. Or sex or horror.
I didn't. Well, I didn't go. I didn't. Go in the fanfiction that some that.
They're just gonna write their own scenarios.
Was a very active game of Grey's Anatomy Hangman.
Really. Yes. What? Ohh. So the clue was.
So someone points like the dot dot dot com like dash dot dot dot like hangman and then someone will go do a letter.
Obviously something to do with the show. And then the clue.
Right.
And then they'll be like starting to draw the hangman and it's. Yeah, it's like phrases or catch phrases or like things to do with Grey's Anatomy, like Grey's Anatomy. Hangman isn't that.
Brilliant. Like so. Who died in season 11 episode 20.
One. Well, no, there's not even a clue. It's just just gotta guess the.
Oh really?
Words.
Are you kidding?
That's how crazy. Like they get them too really quickly.
Yeah, that's madness, madness. Everyone else is doing wordle, but the Grey's Anatomy people, the fans on the forums, they're woke, mate. They're in the true sense of the word, not this stupid definition of woke these days, like wokers. And they know what the kids are going on.
Grey's Anatomy hangman. Hangman. So anyway, I went into the I think I wanted to grey matter where and just to get a like a fan recap of season 1 Grey matter 'cause. I was like, well, I get that that's good, good play on play on words and they and they know what they know what's happening. So I thought I'll go into a season, I'll go into episode 1.
They just seem like. The more high brow out of the forest grey matter. There's an element of importance. It matters.
Season 1 recap in Grey matter.
Right. What did you find?
Does anyone have a screen cap of mcdreamy's asss no screen cap here, but I'll be fondly remembering what we almost saw for the rest of my life lol. I just keep replaying it and replaying it and replaying it. Yep, Yep, that would be a mental screen cap that never leaves the brain. Millions of women across America have that screen.
Right.
Cap. That was, that was.
Ohh.
The season 1 recap.
So this is how chicks talk about their wanky banks.
Yes. Does anyone have a screen cap dreaming us?
They just wanna get off on Patrick Dempsey's.
**** that was the. That was the recap of episode 1.
Don't we all? OK, yeah.
Who's got the sprints app? But then I also found the Grey's Anatomy Haiku Forum.
See now that sounds a bit nicer.
And so from season 1 episode one, yeah, Mcdreamy I swoon. Could your curls look more luscious? Pray for turtle.
That's really sweet. It's like a sweet haiku, isn't it? Yeah.
Isn't it? Isn't it? So memorable episodes of Grey's Anatomy. We've talked about the the bomb in the body cavity.
Uh-huh. Yeah, that seems to be like 1. Of the best ones.
One of the biggest ones and.
Hmm.
I never really got. I think I watched a bit of season 1 because I had to read the ads. I don't think I watched a lot of season 2, but season 2 Episode 27 which is incidentally 10 episodes.
Right.
After the bomb in the body cavity.
Uh-huh.
Denny's death. So Denny was going steady with Izzy. You like?
Ohh Katherine Heigl's character, yes.
And he needed to get a heart transplant. And he's on the waiting list and on the waiting list. And on the waiting list, a dog didn't need it. That was One Tree Hill.
Hmm.
On the waiting list. And so he gets the transplants and I think she she cuts some wire and does something because she's the girlfriend, but she's also the doctor and she's doing stuff.
Hmm.
And he dies.
Oh Jesus. That's ohh my God. And it was. It is his.
Jenny dies. This is what I mean. They. Do these shocking deaths. Fault she puts on her prom dress because she was gonna wear her prom dress to the wedding, thinking she's gonna marry him. So I think they were gonna get married after he got the heart.
Ohh actually had transplant in the hospital.
Transplant. In the and she goes in there and she finds. Him dead.
Oh.
And then she had the big downward spiral.
Jesus. That's a that's a lot. That's like, see. And that's the thing. Like it might have been a different time. And I don't think we could cope with that kind of drama.
Uh. Well, there was another one.
In our in our world of fiction, like our world of non fiction is just too much. So for the to be bombarded with that in your relaxing times.
Well, there was another intern. There was like a recurring intern who got hit by a bus and he was so badly disfigured they didn't know who he was, but they referred to him as 007. That was kind of their name for.
Hmm.
And so then he wrote on Meredith's hand, O 7, and then she figures out that it's the intern that's there on. The bed. And then he died. Mcdreamy died. Ohh.
Oh.
My God.
Died season 11 episode 21. He stops at a car accident only to get hit by a. Truck moments later.
Oh.
He's alive, but he can't speak. Ohh. My God. After what we've talked about earlier, he's alive but can't speak. Watching bad doctors let him die. Meredith pulls the plug. Ohh.
Meredith pulls the plug on Mcdreamy. Yes, that's that is too.
And the fans never got over that. So I don't think I can go into the way back machine to season 11 because I think the haikus will be very dark.
I I mean, I thought the news was bad, but this is this and we go to fiction to escape from the news and then we get Grey's Anatomy and it's worse than this is awful. I didn't even mean to boom during that. Sorry. We had another TV show though. Yes, which is more targeted than the game of geeks and stuff. Attack of the show, attack of the show and attack my show was one of my favourite show. Yes, yes. And it's it's it's kind of.
Oh, this, this one, we this one we got the we got the foxtail and we found it once. And like that's good.
That, that it's over now, but it made its debut on the 28th of March in 2005 and. It was this tech gaming pop culture talk show that aired on G4 TV from 2005 to 2013. They had a brief revival and it was this nerdy, chaotic and hilarious kind of mix of video games and movies and comics and Internet culture and whatnot.
Big bone, yes.
Funny. Funny.
I think I remember the theme. I think it was like reminds me in mid afternoons when I used to get up from my nap after doing breakfast radio. You go for like a one hour 2 hour nap in the afternoon. Then get up and watch the take of the show and deal or no deal. And so I remember it for that. And it was really cool.
Now remember that robots.
Yes.
I think are the most the two people I remember most on it are Kevin Pereria. And Olivia Munn, but also Chris Hardwick, who I think what did he end up doing? Yeah, he ended up doing Nerdist, who, sadly. And then there was a bit of scandal around him and all that sort of stuff. But back in the day, it was all attack of the.
What I know that name.
Ah.
That's right.
Show and it was great they had.
That's where Olivia Munn got her start in two thing, isn't it? I liked her, and she held her own in the gaming because it was very gaming heavy and she'd do the game reviews, but she'd always she held her own really well.
And she was great. She was great as it. And she got the extra mile, too.
In that hmm.
She was and she was hot. You know which always helps with the nerds, which is very hot, but also very savvy and very intelligent. She will. They have. They're funny, they're they're really cool segments like the feed where they do all the news updates and then they'll go into around the Nets. They do all the viral videos and then gadget prom, where they talk about devices. And then they do the indie games and the comic book stuff. And then the pranks and stuff.
She was. Yes, that's loved her.
Just.
That was my favourite. That was the pop culture, yes.
On each other. Sometimes they do challenges and.
Ohh that's right yes.
Whatever.
And then they do all these guest appearances as well. So they had heaps of. Celebrities and stuff coming but it. Just it just kind of run out of steam. There was this big influence on gaming and pop culture and all of that sort of stuff, and I think it really help. Set the set that trend or pave the way for anyone who is doing YouTube or whatever. Olivia Munn talks about what her thoughts on on it were when it all went to crap.
You know tag of the show was the flagship show for G4 and Kevin Pereira and I, I do believe it was lightning in a bottle with the two of us. I don't. I don't know if I will find another person. That I. Messed with as well and I don't know if he will as well on the other side we we what we had and what we could do together, it was like lightning in a bottle. And so I think when that show ended and when that chemistry ended between him and I I think. I think that you know that that hurt, probably the network and and I I felt really bad about that and I I I wanted to stay on the network in some capacity and it was difficult and they made it difficult. G4 made it difficult for me.
Yeah. So you could tell that it was kind of a bit messy.
Because G4 moved away from gaming content, I think at one point and that's why it was originally cancelled.
Right. Kind of.
Well.
They just kind of ran out of time and I think Olivia Munn, actually in that interview or another one sort of says it best as well because she's like, well, I'd love to see it. Now, but the problem is, is the audience for that can hack anything so they can get it. They they're ahead of the curve. So by the time you put the show out, the stuffs already dated. That's right. And there was that small window sort of between about 2005 and 2013 where they still were ahead of the curve. Cause are doing this daily and they have.
They. Know it. Yeah, that's true. Hmm.
Their fingers on the pulse and they generated. So much content and and the chemistry between Olivia and Kevin was definitely the best out of all the hosts. I think as well they just they were excellent. But you know, massive influence. I mean, Olivia Munn went on to be in movies and stuff like that. She became quite famous because of it. I think she dated Aaron Rodgers from the.
Yeah, I think so too.
Green Bay Packers for a while there.
Oh.
Thankfully, she saw the light and moved on from that, and then went on to be in movies like The Predator. Not great, but still the movies. A movie. Anyway. They they did shift away from that and thus ends the era before it even began. And we just spoke about the beginning of it. Do with it. What you will.
oh
Ah, it's just dawned. On me, we could have done attack of the show as a hatch if it made its debut. Is that breaking things? I broke it. Great. It's done.
It's done with. This debuts all the time and then this shows that end all the time. You're just gonna move half the show into hatch match and dispatch.
Now.
You just broke the first rule of brainstorming, which is there's no such thing as a. Bad idea. Ohh, you can't just if you were in a brainstorm. Somebody you can't escape. That's dumb.
Oh. I think you should rethink that idea.
You know what I've rethought?
It maybe circle back and then circle back around and then just move over to somewhere else.
Yeah, I've rethought it. I'm circling back. I've circled back twice and now I'm spiralling down and I I you're right, it was dumb. Let's do hatchet batches, batches. I can't even say dispatches. I tried. I think I did OK. Ah, celebrity that died. Ohh, we've.
Yeah. Yes.
Gotta do this. Now I'm getting things back on track. There's nothing like a a really well played recorder performed by virtuoso musician to bring you back. It's it really is. It's just like, I mean, you know, they should put that on the car map.
Everything isn't. Church you back into reality. That's how you get out of the way back. Machine. Yes, the recorder is present day.
And now you could do some bonus content like ship yourself out the car and go listen. I was thinking, you know, maybe the thing that this car map is missing is me.
It's a destination recorder.
Just playing some relaxing tunes on my trusty pink recorder. Hmm, that's not a metaphor either. It it is actually a really it's a it's a pink transparent recorder. You play it, and if it doesn't like it, I'll say that was an awful. Do it again. That's how transparent that recorder is.
Yes, yes, this hold. On it's transparent too. It's very early 2000s. You can see there.
A dispatch. We need to be serious. We've had Samus death and destruction. Yes. OK, A it's a a celebrity. A famous well known person that died on on the 2nd of April 20 years ago. That said this.
OK. Now someone dies.
Dear young people of America. What? What I wish to you. Listen. To his voice. Do not be afraid.
Yeah. If you said Pope John Paul the second. He'll be correct. He died on the 2nd of April in 2005, the 264th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. He was 84 years old. His heart failed. His papacy began in 1978. That's a long serving Pope. I reckon you know. And remember we talked about him way back. I think before Christmas where he wasn't very well and he was doing the.
That is yes.
Christmas Mass and he was just kind of like he said.
Yeah.
Very unwell.
So when you're a Pope, you don't get to retire like your retirement.
I don't think so. Death. Yeah, and OK, we we know that on this podcast we do have a bit of an issue where sometimes we will talk about celebrities from 20 years ago like you're shifty, shell shocks or whatever and you know and then things will come to pass and they will pass away.
Is just you die.
Wow.
And at the time of recording, the current Pope is unwell but still alive. But he's very, very unwell, so by the time this goes to air, we may very well find ourselves in a similar situation to what we had 20 years ago on the 2nd of April when Pope John Paul the second passed away.
Very well, yes.
Hopefully not, hopefully not.
Just saying. It's OK. Long may the curse continue or not. It doesn't matter. They're very excited in Rome and at the Vatican right now for a couple of one because, like, is he gonna go if he does, we get a new Pope or we need to make the preparations for the new Pope. But at the same time, we need to mourn the old Pope. It's a catch 22.
Ohh yeah, it's all the the contingency planning, yes.
They're all, but there is a lot of excitement. There is a fun. About the Vatican, while the Pope is thinking about.
Go. Anyway, back to this Pope. Let's talk about John.
Yes, OK.
Paul, the people.
'S Pope, the he was the people's Pope from 9 established 1978. The people's Pope. Yep, Yep. Used to get into the ring and do the people's elbow on all.
He was famous.
He actually was one of them.
EST 7-8.
The heathens, yeah.
You see, the first one that had the popemobile.
If you smell what the Pope is cooking, he.
It was the first one that.
He did have the Pope mobile, yes.
Had the. Popemobile. Oh, I just thought that was cute. That was so cute.
Quick Robin to the Pope mobile, he used to fight. Crime trauma there.
Hurry up. Get in the paper, bill, one of the most influential and.
Used to fight crime, had a little red phone in the middle of it. Commissioner Gordon would call him when he was on the.
I think he was the most I. Think he was one of the. Most beloved popes in history and.
He was, I think my my my mum went up to his math when he went to Queensland and maybe he met him, he got some rosary beads blessed or something like that. Yeah. Umm.
Met him, went to his net. Ohh did. He go to QLD. Wow, that's pretty. Yeah, he died, as you said, at age 84, after a long battle. So he I think he had he had Parkinson's.
Yeah, he was a mess before.
But he also had heart failure cause I think in. In the lead up he he had a a few illnesses over the because he was like he said he was, yeah, he was unwell at at the Christmas Mass. But then I think he got pneumonia I think.
Yeah, like pneumonia and stuff, yeah.
He had sepsis. As well, he had Parkinson's and then heart failure. So I think it was.
That's gonna end you pretty quickly.
A combination of a lot of.
You know what he had? You know what he had at 84.
Tired. Tired he'd had.
Years old.
Enough. Enough. That's right. And no retirement. God, that's so.
He's had enough, exactly. He'd had enough. He's just like, you know what? Time for another Pope. I've been doing this since 1978. I'm 84 years old. There's no superannuation coming my way, except for whatever the coins people put on the plate. And Matt and I am done. I've had enough. So he packed it in.
Harsh, so harsh.
Need a rest.
God rest his soul. He he's my Pope. He's the Pope that I remember. He's the Pope that I remember. All the pictures of. He's my Pope. So that was my Pope.
That's the vibe I grew up with. Yes, is my part too. With the yeah, with the Bing and the Popemobile.
Very, you know, with the Pope hair and the Pope mobile, the big Kevlar and the stick, the Pope stick.
And the. The. With the with the hook at the end.
The SEPTA, the Pope. SEPTA. He used that to fighting crime like the Pope. Mobile. Same thing. Use the.
Yeah. What does he use that for? Fight crime millions gathered in Saint. Peter's square.
In the name of the fact that the spirit to Santis, yeah.
Ray and mourning his death, world leaders and religious figures paid tribute George W Bush. QE 2 Fidel Castro the boat was buried 24/7. News report I remember. Because when they die the steam comes out, doesn't it? Oh.
That's the queen. Not this boat. Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Of course, cause you gotta wait for the. You gotta wait for the smoke to come out of the the the smoke to come out of and they're burning the papers or whatever and they're like the popes did the smokes coming out.
The smoke, yeah. Smart cerebrum was. They're waiting for the smoke. Yes. Is it gonna smoke? Is it not gonna smoke? It was a lot. There's a lot going on.
Of the thing they ring the bells. Yeah, yeah. I think we just got on a lot. Of tradition. But it's important, apparently, could.
Breakfast TV. We're doing live broadcast outside.
For them. Oh yeah.
Waiting for the smoke.
Well, we're here and the smokestack. It's doing cool. That's what I'd be doing.
4.
Back to you.
4 million people went to the. Funeral. Oh yeah. It's a big well went to Rome when the funeral was, I don't know if.
Funeral.
Yeah.
Actually went to the funeral, so the. Pope Stock 200 world leaders, one of the largest gatherings of dignitaries in history. He was buried in the Vatican grottoes beneath Saint Peter's Basilica and then was.
Yes, the people's Pope. That's where they. Put all of them in the grottos under. The basilica, yeah.
Declared a St in 2014 by.
Pope Francis. Yeah, I remember that. Remember when he was declared a St JP JP the second? Yeah, it's good Pope.
I do, yeah.
Yeah, it took a while.
Sad.
Well, sad to a point, but I think he was probably relieved, you know, like he said, he'd had enough. And so have we. That's the end of the show. We have had enough, and you've probably had enough of our book this week as well. We had a good time. I hope you did too. We do appreciate you listening.
